Ohio owners, institutions & design teams

Geotechnical engineering for Ohio sites.

Move from unknown ground conditions to a defined engineering scope. CSA’s Ohio-based team brings together subsurface investigation, foundation recommendations, geostructural design, and construction support.

Connect ground conditions to the next design decision.

New construction, institutional improvements, and constrained excavations call for different information. Tell us what you’re planning and where the design stands.

01

Investigation & foundations

CSA’s geotechnical capabilities include subsurface investigation and foundation recommendations. Define the proposed footprint, grading, loads, and decisions the investigation needs to support.

02

Excavation & shoring

For sites with excavation constraints, discuss earth retention and shoring alongside the ground investigation. Available information about neighboring structures and access helps shape the scope.

03

Public & institutional work

CSA’s documented Ohio projects include Nationwide Children’s Hospital shoring, Ohio DNR statewide improvements, and Gahanna Friendship Park civil design.

Temporary shoring design beside streets & utilities

CSA designed a beam-and-lagging wall for basement excavation near the University of Cincinnati, protecting adjacent streets, utilities, and a home.

  • The shoring reached an exposed height of approximately 23 feet.
  • It also served as a one-sided form for the exterior foundation wall in the constrained work area.

Cincinnati hospital expansion

Temporary earth retention & deep-foundation design

CSA’s foundation-design case study describes hospital excavation support and deep foundations designed around existing buildings, utilities, and construction access.

  • The account describes over 50,000 square feet of temporary earth retention for excavations exceeding 20 feet.
  • The foundation design included 52-inch drilled piers and 45-foot micropiles.

For the planning conversation

Explore the regional setting and local questions.

ODNR's generalized bedrock map provides statewide geologic context. For Cincinnati hillside work, the city's preliminary evaluation handout offers a local reference for discussing the proposed development and what site information the design team needs.

Good questions.
A better starting point.

What geotechnical services does CSA offer in Ohio?

CSA’s capabilities include subsurface investigations, foundation recommendations, slope stability analysis and stabilization, construction-phase geotechnical support, earth retention, and excavation support design.

Can geotechnical and shoring design be coordinated?

Yes. CSA’s geotechnical and geostructural capabilities allow those scopes to be discussed together. Share the excavation depth, adjacent conditions, access constraints, and available ground information.

Does CSA have documented Ohio project experience?

Its 2026 capabilities statement lists Nationwide Children’s Hospital shoring, Ohio DNR statewide restroom improvements, and Gahanna Friendship Park civil design. Scott can discuss experience relevant to your proposed work.
